Anthony John Grosso

Anthony “Tony” Grosso passed away with his Wife and family by his side in the early morning of May 27, 2023, in Fort Myers, Florida. He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, a World War II Veteran and member of the 101st Army Airborne Paratroopers. 

Anthony was born in Somerville, Massachusetts to Angelo and Rita Grosso. After graduating from Revere High School, he joined the US Air Force Reserve where he attained the rank of Sargent while serving as an aircraft mechanic based at the Otis Air National Guard in the Cape. He was honorably discharged in May of 1974 after serving for 5 years, and eventually settled in Beverly, MA with his family.

After his service, Anthony worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for a short period before beginning a long and distinguished career at the Department of the Navy as a Ductwork Draftsman.  It is here he designed, installed, and maintained vital HVAC systems on an array of Naval vessels worldwide which led to numerous in person and infamous “ShipChecks”.

When not working, Anthony was a dedicated and kind Father and Husband who enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a passion for the outdoors and loved hiking and family camping trips. He was a life-long Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, attending many home games at Fenway Park to cheer his beloved Boston teams.

Anthony was well known by friends and family for his many witty and playful songs and phrases, known as ‘Tony-Isms’, that he seemingly crafted out of thin air.  He created his own Lexicon which personified his fun, loving, and carefree personality that endeared him to his family, friends, and anyone “lucky enough” to meet him.  His passion for our servicemembers and military history led him to volunteer in retirement at the Southwest Florida Military Museum which allowed him to share his stories bringing him great joy.

Anthony is survived by his wife Joann (Sheehan) Grosso, his four sons Michael Grosso, John Desrosiers, Jason Grosso, and Ryan Desrosiers. Additionally, he leaves behind his sister Rachel (Grosso) Cotugno, nephew and niece Mark and Rita Cotugno, a granddaughter, five grandsons, and a great granddaughter.   A memorial will be held in the Boston area on September 22, 2023.
